Fond of sporting a jacket at the venues of public events?

Consider other options as the military is planning to ban the wearing of this outer garment for security purposes.

Speaking at the AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing, Task Force Davao commander Col. Consolito Yecla said guests with jackets will not be allowed to enter the venues of major public events following the recent explosion in Indanan, Sulu.

“If you are wearing a jacket we will make sure that you are inspected properly,” he stressed.

Yecla said they will request the city government to enact an ordinance that would institutionalize the non-wearing of jackets especially when approaching inspection areas.

He said the measure would be in addition to the “no backpack policy” and the non-bringing of plastic containers.

“We can easily see individuals with suicide vests if they do not have jackets,” Yecla added.

He also said that advance guards will be deployed 20 steps away from the inspection area.

Yecla said the advance guards will check on residents wearing jackets and carrying heavy backpacks.

“Before a suicide bomber penetrates on a large crowd, we have inspected him earlier. We have to check on backpacks which we see are heavy. We also inspect thick jackets to ensure that no suicide bomber can penetrate convergence areas,” he said. (PIA XI)
