CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela (DWDD) – Two members of the Communist-NPA-Terrorists (CNTs) operating in the Cordillera Administrative Region surrendered to 503rd Infantry Brigade in Mountain Province last October 4 and 5 2018.
The two were only known for their aliases as Aka Efren and Aka Kalaya (Names withheld for security reason). Efren was a Team Leader, Squad Uno, Kilusang Larangan Guerilla – Marco of the Ilocos-Cordillera Revolutionary Committee operating in the tri-boundaries of Ilocos Sur, Abra and Mt Province, while Aka Kalaya was a Militia ng Bayan member in their locality.
Aka Efren has turned over a Cal. 45 pistol and two Hand Grenades while, Kalaya surrendered an M16 Rifle and subversive documents.
According to Brigadier General Leopoldo Imbang Jr, Brigade Commander, 503IBde, the duo sent a surrender feeler to his troops and after a few days of negotiation, the duo decided to surrender.
“They admitted that they were already tired running in the jungle, no food and support from their previous sources. Their former members, were either surrendered to the other military units in the area or returned to their provinces after learning that they were no longer advance their cause in Mt Province and in Abra.” BGen Imbang Jr, said.
Meanwhile, Major General Perfecto M Rimando Jr, Commander, 5ID commended the 503IBde for continuing their efforts in reaching out the remaining CNT members in the countryside.
“We will not stop in our combat operations and information dissemination efforts in the countryside, knowing that the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the Government has started to sink-in to the CNT members. We learned that they have discussed this program among themselves already. I think, we were on the right track. We expect more surrenderees in the days to come.” MGen Rimando Jr, said.
Just last October 2, Alias Rudy and Alias Danyag, both two high ranking CNT members surrendered to the same unit. The duo yielded a Carbine Rifle and both were members of Kilusang Larangang Guerilla operating in the boundaries of Mt Province and Abra. 5DPAO / MCAG
