DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Oct 8): HISTORICAL | AFP, MILF leaders meet for Peace
CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) It was history in the making!
This was how Major General Cirilito E Sobejana AFP, Commander, 6th Infantry ”Kampilan” Division, in an interview by DWDD, described the visit of AFP Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez, at the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Camp at Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat.
Gen Galvez was joined by Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega AFP, Commander, Western Mindanao Command and Lt Gen Roseller G Murillo AFP, Commander, 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division.
The group was warmly welcomed by fighters and supporters of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) who occupied both sides of the 4 kilometer road leading to the MILF Headquarters.
MILF Chairman Gadzali Jaafar and Gen Galvez, in their statements, maintained their commitment to help each other in the attainment of Peace and Progress, not just in Central Mindanao but the whole of the region.
Gen Galvez is optimistic that Chairman Jaafar will accept his invitation to visit the Armed Forces of the Philippines General Headquarters at Camp Gen Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
MGen Sobejana added that being a soldier being assigned in Mindanao, like Gen Galvez, has enlightened him on the aspect of political, economic, socio-cultural, religious and more importantly the traditions of the people of the region, for better understanding and thus avoiding conflicts
The visit of Gen Galvez has raised the level of confidence between the government and the MILF, whom we considered as partners in our journey towards peace and progress in Mindanao, especially with the expected gratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
Currently, both sides have intensified their information and dissemination drive on better understanding the BOL in close coordination with the local government and civil society organizations.
Lastly, MGen Sobejana is looking forward to a more fruitful week ahead as they reaffirm their commitment to further pursue peace in Central Mindanao and in Mindanao as a whole. AES / MCAG
