CAMP SERVILLANO, Tarlac City (DWDD) – An encounter transpired during a pursuit operation between the NOLCOM forces against the Communist New People’s Army (NPA) Terrorist Group at 3:10 in the afternoon of February 26, 2018 in Cagayan.
While conducting support to Law Enforcement Operations, the 17th Infantry Battalion (17IB) of the Joint Task Force (JTF) “TALA”, under the 5th Infantry Division (5ID), encountered a group of ten (10) NPA terrorists led by Raymond Guzman AKA GANI/BLADDY, in Sitio Naruddukan, Brgy. Abarriongan Uneg, Sto. Nino, Cagayan. The NPA’s suffered undetermined number of casualties, while one (1) casualty on the side of the government troops who was wounded on his left shoulder.
A day before this incident, at 1:40 in the afternoon of February 25, 2018, same unit also had a five (5) minute encounter upon initiating a combat operation in the same barangay, as a response to information provided by local residents of NPA presence in the vicinity. Initially, no casualty was incurred by both sides after the Communist Terrorists withdrew from a brief firefight.
NOLCOM forces will continue to conduct Focused Military Operations (FMO) to preselected target areas identified as NPA affected communities to clear them of armed threats, and eventually reduce their capability. NOLCOM will keep the Communist Terrorists, including other threat groups, off-balanced to prevent them from conducting hostile actions against our people and security forces, and allow the government to bring in social services to the localities.
