PNP to use 3,000 donated Chinese rifles

From Update Philippines (Jul 6): PNP to use 3,000 donated Chinese rifles

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the rifles and ammunitions China donated to the Philippines will be used by the Philippine National Police (PNP) while the sniper rifles will be used by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“Yung firearms na binigay sa atin, 60 sniper rifles plus 3,000 M16s,” Secrerary Lorenzana said during a press briefing with PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa and other officials in Marawi City, July 7.

China donated TY-85 7.62mm sniper rifles, CS/LR4A high precision rifles, CQ-A5 5.56 auto rifles to the Philippines.

The CQ is a Chinese variant of the M16 rifle. Another variant of CQ, the CQ Type A is a copy of M4.

“‘Yung 3,000 M16s ni-receive ko lang ‘yun but it will be given eventually to the Philippine National Police (PNP) dahil wala silang mga long firearms plus ‘yung 5 million ammunition ng baril na ‘yun,” Lorenzana explained.

“We are going to retain the sniper rifles because we need those, [and] will be given to the Army and Marines for any other operations aside from Marawi,” he added.
