From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 4): PA warfighting capability to get significant improvement with arrival of Duterte-programmed equipment

The Philippine Army (PA) will get a significant improvement in its warfighting capability once the high-tech equipment President Rodrigo R. Duterte wants for them start arriving.

"The equipment that the President will program for the military will definitely increase our warfighting capability," PA spokesperson Col. Benjamin Hao said on Thursday.

Items which President Duterte want for the military include more attack helicopters, naval fast craft, long-range sniper rifles, force protection equipment and secured radios.

The President earlier said he is willing to forgo the tedious bidding process in government to acquire more guns, ammunition and equipment for the military.

Although he wants to leave a legacy of peace with threat groups in the country during his six-year term, Duterte recognizes the need to provide the military with state-of-the-art equipment.

“We should buy from our traditional market. Everything will be quality and fast,” he said.

The traditional market for Philippine weapons are the United States, Israel, Italy and France.
