US Secretary of State John Kerry will speak at the Young
Southeast Asian Leadership Initiative (YSEALI) Sea and Earth Advocate Camp (SEA
Camp) Summit on Wednesday, July 27 at the
Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Manila .
The three-day YSEALI
SEA Camp
Summit will highlight the US role in promoting action by individuals and
organization to address challenges to the marine environment in the Philippines .
The event also will serve as the launch of the US Department
of State's "1000 Our Ocean Actions" campaign in the Philippines , an
initiative to document the successful solutions, inspirational stories, and
significant innovations powering positive change in our seas.
Secretary Kerry will meet leaders of US Agency for International
Development Philippines marine conservation initiatives and interact with forty
outstanding alumni of US Embassy-sponsored SEA Camps to learn about the success
of SEA Campers' marine conservation projects and encourage the youth leaders to
undertake new efforts.
Secretary Kerry, an advocate for ocean protection, has been
hosting international Our Ocean conferences since 2014.
The third Our Ocean conference, which will be held September
15-16, 2016 in Washington , DC , will continue to draw international
attention to the serious threats facing the world's oceans, and to commit to
concrete action around the globe to support marine conservation and sustainable
development.
The US Department of State and Georgetown University 's
Walsh School of Foreign Service are cohosting the “Our Ocean, One Future: Youth
Leadership Summit” as an integral part of the Our Ocean conference.
Two SEA Camp alums present at this summit, Anna Oposa and
Rex Abqary Alon, will attend this conference.
