Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General
Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa said on Monday that the police force expects a peaceful
activity to be staged by militant groups in line with President Rodrigo
Duterte's first State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Dela Rosa made the statement following his visit to Commonwealth Avenue
to inspect the deployment of policemen in the area where militant troops are
set to stage a solidarity rally, as he ordered anti-riot cops to lay down their
shields.
”This is the first time the police not feeling threatened
relax na relax po yung kapulisan naitn. Traditionally only limited along
Commonwealth (Avenue) road block natin yung isang bahagi but ngayon we allowed
them get inside in Batasan road totally Commonwelth, walang traffic problem so
doon sa sila loob around 300 meters ng Batasan,” he told reporters.
According to Dela Rosa, militant groups were allowed to
stage mass action 300 meters from the Batasan Complex.
With this, Dela Rosa expects a positve change in the behavior
of the rallyists, assuring them that the cops will protect and respect their
rights.
”(There is) change because there with us they are no longer
against us that’s how we feel that they are solid behind the Duterte
administration this they want reform this is the change we are observing and
experiencing yung militante nakipagbakbakan hampasan sa ating pulis ay
nagpapakitang support sa administration nagpapakita ng disiplina,” said Dela
Rosa.
When asked on what he expects from President Duterte’s SONA,
Dela Rosa answered “honestly I’m not expecting in particular to be said by the
President but expecting general terms policy not really particular in PNP kung
banggitin niya yung accomplishment pasasalamat tayo kung hind ok lang at alam
naman niya ginagawa ng police at alam ng taong bayan ng kapulisan.”
