A New People's Army (NPA) rebel was killed while two
high-powered firearms were captured during an encounter with government troops
in Lopez town, Quezon early on Monday morning.
1st Lt. Xy-zon Meneses, 2nd Infantry Division public affairs
office chief, said the clash transpired at 5: 30 a.m. at Barangay Dela Paz.
Troops were patrolling the vicinity when they encountered an
estimated 30 rebels, triggering a 20 minute firefight which resulted in the
death of one rebel and recovery of an M-16 rifle and a shotgun.
No one was reported hurt nor killed in the government side.
Meneses said the slain NPA is still is yet to be identified.
