The voluntary surrender of the 44 rebels in Sta. Ana,
Pampanga on Monday highlights the healing process being pursued by the Duterte
administration.
"The surrender is timely and relevant as we venture
into the realm of the administration of President Duterte who is focusing on
the path of healing, " AFP Civil Relations Service head Brig. Gen.
Rhoderick Parayno said.
"This is a time for us to embrace the path to peace so
that progress and development can finally creep in to our shores and the
countryside up to the far flung communities," he added.
The surrendered rebels came from two factions, 25 from the
New People's Army and 19 from Rebolusyunaryong Hukbong Bayan.
The group formally surrendered to Sta. Ana Mayor Norberto
Gamboa with the help of the 1st and 2nd Civil Relations Group (CRG), 48th
Infantry Battalion and Pampanga Provincial Police Office.
The ex-rebels also surrendered six high-powered firearms and
later formally presented to Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda at the Pampanga
Provincial Capital in San Fernando .
Pineda expressed happiness with the surrender of her 44
"Kabalen" and to the AFP efforts towards peace especially in her
province and promised to give full support to the surrenderees in terms of
livelihood as they embrace a life of peace.
Major Ericson Bulosan, 2nd CRG who is part of the
negotiating team said more members of armed groups are expected to lay down
their arms due to the success of the surrender of the 44 former rebels.
