From the Manila Bulletin (May 29): (PHOTOS) Misuari waits for ‘friend’ Duterte in Jolo

Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairman Nur Misuari, who has been in hiding after being implicated in the bloody Zamboanga siege in 2013, has resurfaced in Sulu.

Photos from Agence France-Presse show Misuari being interviewed by members of the media at MNLF’s mountain lair in Indanan town, Jolo.

Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte said in a news conference on May 26, he will visit Jolo to talk to Misuari.

Duterte is set to meet his friend Misuari  over reports of a supposed snub on Misuari emissary Rev. Absalom Cerveza on May 6, 2016 at the Matina Enclaves in Davao City.

The Davao City mayor said he was getting in touch with Misuari’s camp for his planned visit to Jolo since the latter cannot come out in public because he is considered a fugitive. Misuari was first spotted in Sulu in January this year.

Duterte’s impending Jolo visit raised speculations he might asked Misuari’s help for the release of the kidnap victims. The MNLF facilitated the recent release of Indonesian nationals taken hostage by the Abu Sayyaf.

Duterte would not confirm this, saying only that he wanted to personally talk with Misuari over the snub issue.

The mayor said there was no intention to snub Cerveza or the MNLF because no information had reached him or his office about Cerveza’s coming to see him.
