The  Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)will soon be leaving Paranas town but with a significant remembrance.

Last Wednesday, as Mayor Yolanda Tan waited for Dana Hyde, Chief executive Officer of MCC, she faced the media and thanked the donor firm for the generous projects.

Under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-cidss) all 44 Paranas barangays were each given a project that ranged from concrete pathway, day care center, multi-purpose hall, water system to name a few.

She added that each year, MCC spent some 19.5 M which ran for five years. During the last five years, each and every barangay was able to have a project of its own.

The sub-projects, said Tan are physical structures, but I am proud that the project processes also empowered our people, Tan told the media.

“Even those who have barely gone to school have gained confidence, are more assertive because of the different cycle of learning they had with the program,” the comely mayor said.

Under the kalahi-cidss project, communities identify and propose their own sub-project, plan, and implement the project and when done, maintain the project with some counterpart of labor from the lgu, said Tan who was able to give other projects due to the savings they had with the kalahi-cidss projects.

“We also proved that our people are reliable, that we can be part of a participatory, transparent and accountable task,” she said.

Aside from the sub-projects, Paranas town also was benefitted with the community based road management project entrusted to the women of the three barangays traversed by the secondary national roads development project.

Not to mention that 5,980 households in Paranas town now enjoy access to their barangays through the concrete roads ushered by the MCC.
