From the Manila Times (May 28): Army trooper survives suicide attempt

AN Army trooper, allegedly beset with family problems, tried to commit suicide by pulling the trigger of a .45 caliber pistol on his temple while having a drinking session with some friends in a remote village in Sta. Catalina town in Negros Oriental on Friday.

Senior Supt. Harris Fama, Negros Oriental Provincial Police (NORPO) director, identified the trooper as Private First Class (PFC) Christian Burgos, detailed with the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion.

He is being observed at the Dumaguete City Hospital after surviving the attempted suicide.
