From the Philippine Information Agency (Feb 9): Peace panel to pursue peace process despite BBL’s non-passage in congress
Despite the non-passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law in the 16th Congress, the government peace panel is still determined to pursue the peace process in Mindanao.
Associate Solicitor Armi Beatriz Bayot of the Office of the Solicitor General said this does not mean the peace process ends.
“We see this disappointment as a delay in the roadmap towards the full implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro but we don’t see this as the end of the peace process,” Bayot said.
Bayot who was the guest of honor and speaker during a forum held in the city recently emphasized that the government is committed to implement the programs and projects under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).
The BBL which contains the political settlement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is just one of the components of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
Aside from the basic law which aims to create the regional government in Mindanao, other components include the transitional justice and reconciliation, the socio-economic development programs on the ground and the normalization process which began in 2015.
Considering that this is a commitment of the government and not alone by this administration, the lady lawyer hopes that the next administration would still consider the 17 years of negotiations entered into by the government representatives
