20 BIFF bandits killed in series of clashes with Army troops

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 9): 20 BIFF bandits killed in series of clashes with Army troops

Military units have killed an estimated 20 Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) during a series of clashes in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao over the weekend.

Fighting erupted when 6th Infantry Division units tried to secure the ongoing flood control project in Barangay Butilen, of the above-mentioned area.

Capt. Joann Petinglay, 6th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said these figures are based from reports of civilians.

No bodies of the slain BIFF were recovered as of this time, she added.

"No government forces killed in clashes," Petinglay said.

In the issuing encounter, three government troopers were wounded, including Capt. Jimmy Amoloy, 22nd Mechanized Company commander.

Construction of the flood control project in the area has been going on smoothly when the BIFF bandits harassed private firm workers on Friday, even setting on fire two backhoes used for dredging the Butilen River.
