The Board of Generals (BOG) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines is deliberating on the list of candidates to replace the outgoing Philippine Military Academy superintendent who retires on February 17.
The outgoing PMA Superintendent, Lieutenant General Oscar Lopez, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56. He is a member of PMA “Dimalupig” Class 1981.
The PMA chief holds a 3-star position and senior officers call it a “retirement position”.
The shortlist is reportedly topped by Major General Donato San Juan, a member of PMA “Maharlika” Class 1984. He is current commander of the Army’s Special Operations Command (SOCOM), a position he got in December 2013.
SOCOM is the mother unit of the Scout Ranger Regiment and Special Forces Regiment, the elite forces of the Army.
