From InterAksyon (Oct 21): UP cops nab military spies in Diliman campus
Six military agents reportedly on a surveillance operation were apprehended by the University of the Philippines Diliman police and Special Services Brigade in front of Vinzons Hall Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Collegian reported.
The report posted on the Collegian's Facebook page
(https://www.facebook.com/philippinecollegian?fref=nf) quoted eyewitness accounts of three members of a workers' group who met with UP community leaders on preparations for the “Manilakbayan: Kampuhan sa Diliman”, a solidarity camp at the campus scheduled on October 26 that will host some 700 lumad who have embarked on a trek from Mindanao to Metro Manila to highlight the militarization and human rights violations that have driven thousands of indigenous people from their homes.
It said the agents were onboard two motorcycles, a Toyota Innova and another vehicle.
The Collegian also quoted Senior Police Officer 2 Pedro Walawala of the Quezon City Police District as saying they had taken custody of the agents who "were on an authorized operation to locate a target who was allegedly on campus" but did not say who or what the target was.
The report noted that there is an existing agreement between UP and the Department of National Defense - the Sotto-Enrile Accord - that bars the military from entering the university premises.
