Joint operatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police arrested on Tuesday afternoon one of the top men of the Communist Party of the Philippines/National Democratic Front/New People’s Army (CPP-NDF-NPA) in Mindanao.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 spokesperson Antonio Rivera identified the communist leader as Porferio D. Tuna, who is also known as Pinot/Ampong/Ricky, the deputy secretary of the rebel group's Southern Mindanao Regional Command.

Rivera said Tuna, who sometimes issues press statements from the communist movement aside from a certain "Ka Oriz", was arrested at La Filipina, Tagum City by the joint elements from the 10th Infantry Battalion, the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Davao del Norte and the Tagum City Police Office when they served the warrants of arrests issued by a Nabunturan court.
