Troopers from the 10th Infantry Division are now conducting
pursuit operations against the New People's Army (NPA) band which attacked the
security outpost of the Apex Mining in Barangay Masara, Maco town Compostela Valley Sunday night.
1st Lt. Alexandre Cabales, 10th Infantry Division
spokesperson, said that an estimated 30 NPAs affiliated with Guerilla Front 27
attacked the outpost around 7: 30 p.m.
He added that the security facility was quickly burned by
the rebels after its occupants abandoned it due to the superior numbers of the
attacking NPAs.
Cabales said that the rebels were attempting to burn one
backhoe when responding Army troops arrived, scattering the group, who then
fled taking with them two security guards as hostages.
The two hostages were eventually released inSitio Bunlang,
Barangay New Leyte of the same municipality.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing as of this posting.
