Three people, including two rebels and a soldier, were
killed while six others were wounded during a clash at Sitio Camarin, Napnapan,
Pantukan town, Compostela
Valley Sunday morning.
The encounter took place at 11:55 a.m., Eastern Mindanao
Command public affairs office chief Capt. Alberto Caber said.
He said that the slain trooper was from the 71st Infantry
Battalion of the 10th Infantry Division.
Caber said government troops were conducting security patrol
in the area when they were fired upon by about 50 New People's Army (NPA)
bandits.
Civilians reported that the rebels were under the leadership
of a certain "Maruz" and were conducting harassment and extortion
activities in the adjacent villages.
Caber said two rebels were killed while another six were
wounded during the encounter.
He added that the bodies of the slain rebels and those of
the wounded were taken by their companions during the retreat to the forest.
Troopers of the 71st Infantry Battalion are now conducting
pursuit operations.
