From Tempo (Jul 27): 3 NPA rebels captured

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Army troopers captured three suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) during their combat operation at Sinundungan Valley, Cagayan. Lieutenant Colonel Resureccion Mariano, commander of the Army’s 17th Infantry Battalion, identified the arrested suspects as Orlando Duruin, 64, alias Ka Lando; Marlon Baganay, 20; and Mindo Bisyotan, 27.

Mariano said the troops confiscated from Ka Lando a .45-caliver pistol while an M-16 Armalite rifle was seized from Baganay on July 20, 2015. The soldiers also recovered from the suspects several subversive documents and improvised landmines.

The captured NPA rebels were turned over to police operatives for the filing of appropriate charges against them. The three suspects denied that they are members of the NPA.

Duruin admitted that he was a former NPA member and has been not active in the movement since 2012. It was reported that Duruin was the team leader of the demolition and explosive unit of the NPA with pending case of rebellion in court. Duruin is also listed in the order of battle of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
