PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – A ranking leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) involved in the raid of a municipal police station and the ambush of troops from the Philippine Marines was arrested in northern Palawan recently.

The 64-year-old Saber Tingdan, alias Ka Kimbo, Ka Joab, Ka Mario, and Ka Saber, was arrested on June 18 and turned over to the Palawan provincial jail, said Colonel Dennis Hernandez, commanding officer of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 4 (MBLT4) on Wednesday.

Tingdan, who is said to be the second ranking leader of the NPA and the squad leader of the KSPN-North Pilipinas, was arrested at Sitio Maypa, Barangay Pancol in the northern town of Taytay by a joint team of policemen from the Taytay Municipal Police Station and troops from the 43rd Marine Company of MBLT 4.

Tingdan was arrested by virtue of two warrants of arrest issued by Branch 52 of the Palawan Regional Trial Court for the crimes of robbery and murder.
