From the Daily Tribune (Jun 25): Outgoing AFP chief bids farewell to Southern Luzon Command
Outgoing Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang bid goodbye to the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees of the Lucena-based Southern Luzon Command Wednesday.
Catapang is scheduled to step down on July 11, his 56th birthday.
He served the AFP for 38 years since his graduation from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in 1981.
The Southern Luzon Command was the first among six unified commands of the AFP Catapang visited as part of his farewell visit to military units.
The AFP chief also expressed confidence that the military will be victorious in various battles due to professionalism which will be highlighted by the AFP through the AFP Transformation Roadmap.
He proudly mentioned also about the water, air and land assets the AFP will commission in the coming months.
“In next year’s Independence Day, two F-50 fighter jets will be flying over our airspace,” he said.
“Indeed our Armed Forces is moving on the right direction, the AFP has a bright future,” Catapang stressed.
