Forces from Philippine Navy and United States Navy conducted Visit, Board, Search and Seizure drills in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on June 22 as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Philippines 2015.

“Sailors assigned to Surface Warfare Mission Package, Detachment 4, currently embarked aboard the littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), practice Visit, Board, Search and Seizure drills with Philippine Navy Sailors as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Philippines 2015,” the US Navy said.

Visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) is the term used by the United States military and law enforcement agencies for maritime boarding actions and tactics, designed to capture enemy vessels, to combat terrorism, piracy and smuggling, and to conduct customs, safety and other inspections.

CARAT Philippines 2015 started June 18 and will run until June 30.

Filipino and American sailors are taking part in joint gunnery exercises, helicopter crash and salvage drills, deck-landing qualifications, visit, board, search-and-seizure and weapon system training.
