From the Philippine Star (Jun 25): Bomb blast hits Basilan
A bomb explosion rocked Lamitan City in Basilan Tuesday night, security officials said yesterday.
Navy Capt. Roy Vincent Tinidad, chief of staff of Naval Forces Western Mindanao and Task Force Zambasulta, said there was no reported casualty in the blast that occurred around 11 p.m.
Trinidad said an improvised explosive device was placed in front of a remittance center, which was damaged in the blast.
Authorities are eyeing extortion as the motive for the attack believed to be staged by Abu Sayyaf bandits.
