From Tempo (Jun 24): Another NPA leader nabbed
Another ranking leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) fell into the hands of government security forces in Samar, the military said.
Maj. Amado C. Gutierrez, public affairs officer, 8th Infantry Division (8ID), Philippine Army, identified the arrested rebel leader as Erwin C. Lagucay, alias Eman, allegedly a commanding officer of the NPA’s Sentro de Gravidad “Botchoy” and head of the Jorge Bolito Command’s organizing department.
Gutierrez, citing a report from Col. Leoncio A. Cirunay, Army 801st Brigade commander, Gutierrez, said Lagucay was arrested by troops under the 801st Infantry Brigade and personnel from the Sta. Rita municipal police station before midnight on Sunday in Barangay Magsaysay, Sta. Rita town.
Prior to the arrest, a concerned civilian reported to the Army about a suspicious person roaming around their community. Acting on the information, Cirunay immediately ordered an entrapment operation that led to the apprehension of Lagucay who was found in possession of two improvised explosive devices (IED), one blasting cap, bladed weapon, and a mobile phone.
