Abducted:Two state troopers, Corporal Benjamin Samano (left)and Private First Class Alvin Ricarte have been released from abduction by the New People’s Army in Davao in the presence of City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Samano and Ricarte who were guarding Sumitomo Fruits Corp. were snatched last Dec.2 in Compostella Valley by members of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 33. The NPA said the abduction was meant to send a message to end alleged violations of workers rights by Sumifro, a Japanese-owned banana export firm. Duterte thanked the NPA and expressed hope the government could resume peace talks with the National Democratic Front. Danny Simon
