The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Parliamentary Union of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) has invited fugitive Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding Chairman Nur P. Misuari to the 10th Session of the PUIC of OIC Member States Conference on Jan. 21-22 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Prof. Mashur bin-Ghalib Jundam of the MNLF Education Committee and close ally of Misuari, relayed this yesterday to the Manila Bulletin.

He said the PUIC extended the invitation through the Islamic Republic of Iran, being the chair of the parliamentary body of the 57-member OIC.

Relatedly, the MNLF has been an observer at the OIC itself since 1977, with Misuari still regarded as MNLF chairman until now.

Needless to say, Misuari, being in hiding from the long arm of the law because of rebellion charges arising from the September 2013 fighting in Zamboanga City, has no way of attending the meeting.

Jundam said that most likely the MNLF chieftan, like in the past, will be naming MNLF leaders who will attend the Istanbul meeting. “If the government allows ‘Maas’ (Misuari) to go to Istanbul, he will attend,” he said.

It could be recalled the MNLF applied for its Bangsamoro People’s Congress (now Bangsamoro National People’s Parliament (BNPP) as observer in the PUIC, which the body granted on January 30, 2012 during its 7th conference session in Palembang, Indonesia.

Misuari attended the Palembang meeting where the MNLF supremo received with enthusiasm the PUIC approval.

The grant to the BNPP chaired by Ustadhz Zain Jali as observer was endorsed to the PUIC by its Executive Committee during its 7th Meeting in 2011 in Ankara, Turkey.

BNPP is the MNLF-Misuari group’s “regular parliament component body…tasked to create policies complimentary with Islamic Laws to regulate the affairs of the MNLF members and the Bangsamoro masses.”

Jundam said he and Misuari also attended the 8th PUIC conference session in Khartoum, Sudan, on Jan. 17-22, 2013.
