An improvised explosive device found on the Basilan Circumferential Road in Lamitan City was neutralized by a Philippine Army bomb disposal unit Saturday afternoon, Bombo Radyo reported.
The IED was found at about 3:30 p.m., inside a paint can at a construction site in Barangay Parangbasak.
Soldiers from the Army's 39th Explosive and Ordnance Division team disrupted the bomb.
According to the report, the IED was triggered by a radio signal.
Authorities are still determining if the Abu Sayyaf Group was involved given that last December 19, a security checkpoint found bomb-making materials in a pickup used by suspected Abu Sayyaf members.
