Police step up patrol in CDO

From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 1): Police step up patrol in CDO

The local police command has stepped up its patrol in this trading hub in a bid to thwart possible terror attack and to address the rising crime incidents in the urban center here.

Sr. Police Supt. Graciano Mijares, head of the city’s 3000-strong police force, said on Tuesday that more uniformed police officers have been deployed in the urban center as part of the “police visibility” campaign of the local police command.

“Aside from the uniformed police officers, plainclothes police have been also deployed to augment the uniformed police personnel,” Mijares said.

Mijares said that the local command has not received intelligence information about the alleged terror plot in various urban centers in Mindanao that includes Cagayan De Oro City as one of the possible targets.

However, Mijares said the local police command is not taking chances. “As usual, the police command is always on its toes to preempt anyone from sowing criminal activities here,” Mijares added.

Last Monday, City Councilor Ramon G. Tabor, chair of the city council’s police, fire, and public safety, urged the local police command to step the campaign against criminalities in this premier capital in Northern Mindanao.

During the regular session on Monday, Tabor has expressed alarm over the increasing number of crimes in the locality and the reported “summary killings” which were perpetrated by unknown assailants.

Tabor said that the city council would want the local police to provide the local august body the regular report of the actual crime occurring here and the action taken by the local police command.
