From the Philippine News Agency (May 7): (Update) 25 injured in Fort Bonifacio fire, explosion

The number of people wounded in the fire that occurred at the Explosive and Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Battalion, located at the Army Support Command (ASCOM) in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Wednesday morning, has now climbed to 25.

The incident took place around 10:28 a.m., Philippine Army (PA) spokesman Lt. Col. Noel Detoyato said.

Initial report revealed that from the fire, an explosion occurred because of the explosive components of the ordnance stored at the said building.

Detoyato said the victims were immediately brought to the Army General Hospital in Fort Bonifacio.

Among the injured were four officers, nine enlisted personnel, and 12 personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Most of the victims sustained minor wounds, three suffered from second degree burns, while two had avulsed and lacerated wounds on the face and arm.

Six of the victims were evacuated to the AFP Medical Center in V. Luna, while two others were brought to Taguig-Pateros Hospital and Ospital ng Makati.

Detoyato said that the other victims were undergoing treatment at the Army General Hospital.

The fire burned the whole Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion Headquarters at the ASCOM.

Explosions occurred while on the process of putting out the fire that caused the injury of the said soldiers and members of the BFP.

Detoyato said the PA is still conducting an in depth investigation to determine other circumstances leading to the fire and explosion.
