Armed men torch construction equipment in Camarines Norte

From ABS-CBN (May 7): Armed men torch construction equipment in Camarines Norte

CAMARINES NORTE -- Four armed men torched a drum carrier and a cement mixer on Tuesday afternoon in Sitio Submakin, Paracale, Camarines Norte, police said on Wednesday.

The suspects also opened more than 100 cement bags and scattered their contents.

Authorities said the equipment and the cement were supposed to be used for a road project in the area.

One of the suspects allegedly told a local resident that the project contractors must pay a "revolutionary tax."

The suspects fled toward Sitio Cabactinan, according to witnesses.

The damage was estimated to be worth around P67,000.

The Philippine Army's 49th Infantry Batallion said the incident was caused by a misunderstanding between the project contractor and workers, and was not related to the communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels.
