The Philippine Navy (PN) announced that two Japanese ships, the JS Shirane (DDH-143) and JS Asatuki (DD-132), arrived Wednesday at the Pier 15, Manila South Harbor for a goodwill visit that will last until April 5.

These ships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force are commanded by Capt. Hideto Ikeda, JMSDF Escort Division 13 chief.

In connection with the visit, Ikeda together with the commanding officers of the two ships, visited the Headquarters Philippine Navy and rendered an office call to Rear Admiral Isabelo H. Gador, the Navy's vice commander.

The visit will also include activities such as goodwill games, ship tour and receptions to promote camaraderie and friendship between the PN and JMSDF.

Moreover, personnel from the Philippine Fleet and Defense Acquisition System Assessment Teams (DASAT) for frigates will be given an opportunity to familiarize with the advanced weapon and communication systems of the ships.
