Three alleged New People’s Army fighters were killed in an encounter with the military before dawn Tuesday in Barangay Balukawe, Matnog, Sorsogon.
Captain Marjorie Paimela Paniza, public affairs chief of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division, said the running gun battle broke out around 5:25 a.m. between troops of the 31st and 22st Infantry Battalions and around 20 rebels.
The rebels retreated, leaving the bodies of the three fatalities, two of them identified by their aliases “Wen” and “Abel,” a Baby Armalite rifle, three M16 rifles and an M14 rifle, Paniza said.
