The Philippine Army (PA) on Monday announced that it has deployed medical, engineering and infantry units to help in the ongoing search-and-rescue (SAR) efforts in Tacloban City, Leyte which was devastated by super typhoon "Yolanda" Friday.

"One medical team is now in Tacloban City and another one is on stand-by. The first medical unit arrived there around 3:30 p.m.," Army deputy public affairs office chief Capt. Anthony Bacus said.

He added that the second Army medical team is now on stand-by.

Aside from these units, Bacus stated that the 525th Engineering Combat Battalion along with the 1st Special Forces Battalion was deployed to Tacloban around 5: 30 a.m. Monday.

Follow-on units will be coming from the Rizal-based 2nd Infantry Division and Nueva Ecija-based 7th Infantry Division.

These formations were transported by C-130 cargo aircraft.

Bacus said that the 525th is "water-search and rescue and collapsed structure search and rescue" capable unit.

"The infantry units will augment the troops conducting search and rescue operations on areas of the country side and other places as needed," he added.
