NPA rebels harass 2 Army detachments

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 11): NPA rebels harass 2 Army detachments

New People's Army (NPA) rebels harassed on separate occasions two detachments of the Philippine Army very early Wednesday morning, an Army report reaching the PNA said.

Harassed at about past midnight this morning was a detachment of Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) under the 49th Infantry Battalion based in Barangay Baga, Ragay town, Camarines Sur.

Communist dissidents also attacked the Citizens Auxiliary Unit of the Delta Company of the 22nd IB in Purok 5, Barangay San Felipe, Basud, Camarines Norte, at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The rebels reportedly hurled an IED (improvised explosive device) at the Cafgu detachment of the 49th IB but no soldier was reportedly hurt.

In the second incident, the communist guerrillas reportedly fired at the troopers of the 22IB in Basud, Camarines Norte.

The Army soldiers fired back at the rebels, resulting in a 10-minute exchange of gunfire from both sides.

After each harassment, the rebels immediately retreated -- a move seen by the Philippine Army as a tactic against government troopers.

The Army men were still at hot pursuit operations as of press time.
