MNLF Davao commander denies sending troops to Zambo

From ABS-CBN (Sep 12): MNLF Davao commander denies sending troops to Zambo

A leader of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Davao City denied reports that the group will send troops to Zamboanga City to augment the forces of the Nur Misuari-led faction currently involved in a standoff with government forces.

A text message has been circulating saying MNLF members from various areas in Mindanao will be sent to Zamboanga City to serve as reinforcements for the Misuari-led rebels who have seized control over some parts of Zamboanga City.

"Reportedly yesterday, MNLF members from Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao City, Davao del Sur and Sarangani province will allegedly converge in Lumatil, Palembang, Sarangani today. These are the Tausug Muslims of Jolo loyal to Misuari. A certain Hadz Ismael of Malita, Davao del Sur will lead the reinforcement. The estimated reinforcement of 1,250 pax will use pumpboats, trucks and or vans," the text message read.

MNLF Davao City chair Rolando Olamit denied the report and said they do not support the cause of Misuari and his men.

"Ginagawa na kasi nilang monster ang MNLF eh baka totohanin na pero kami gusto namin ng kapayapaan," Olamit said.

Major General Ariel Bernardo, commander of the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division, said the military is meeting with MNLF leaders in Davao region to ensure that there will be no spillover of violence in other parts of Mindanao.
