From the Philippine News Agency (May 23): Army soldier dies, 15 others hurt in Ilocos Norte road accident

An Army trooper was killed and 15 other soldiers were injured when a 6x6 truck they were on board sideswiped a passenger bus along the national highway in Barangay Susugaen, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte at 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The 6X6 military truck was allegedly moving towards south direction when it sideswiped a Florida bus coming from the opposite direction causing the truck to lose its control and rammed into a house on the roadside.

The Pasuquin police identified the fatality as Sergeant Anastacio Fernandez, a member of the 41st Infantry Battalion based in Baay-licuan, Abra and a native of Isabela.

The 15 injured soldiers were identified as Corporals Jerry Valentin and Joel Andrade; and and Privates First Class Allan Ramos, Jomar Sagun, Marlon Malongga, Rino Tabilon, Jaydee Marvin Lopez, Alfredo Cabingas, Domifer Saking, Marvin Magay, Alejandro Bonagan, Gilbert Patong, Jeffrey Katayong, Jake Avarca and Jay-R Domingo.

No one was hurt from among the Florida bus passengers and occupants of the house rammed by the Army truck except incurring minor damage.

The 15 injured soldiers are now confined at the Governor Roque Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in Laoag.
