From the Business World (Nov 7): Makabayan coalition to name guest bets
THE MAKABAYAN Coalition is set to announce today five guest candidates for next year’s senatorial elections. The coalition, composed of party-list groups Bayan Muna, Gabriela Women’s Party, Kabataan and ACT Teachers, have previously named Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro A. Casiño as its sole Senate bet. Mr. Casiño said in a chance interview yesterday on the guest candidates: "They are fellow candidates whom we have worked with for a long time on several issues such as human rights, good governance and development of micro-small enterprises." He added that the guest candidates are three women and two men. Makabayan lawmakers are Bayan Muna Rep. Neri J. Colmenares, Gabriela Reps. Emmi A. De Jesus and Luzviminda C. Ilagan, Kabataan Rep. Raymond V. Palatino and ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio L. Tinio.

Makabayan is the main CPP-linked political coaliton consisting of a number of CPP-associated party list poltical parties (Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela, Kabataan, COURAGE, Migrante, ACT and Katribu). The candidates listed above are all long-time CPP front group activists.
ReplyDeleteAccording to an article posted to the Philippine Star (Nov 8) entitled "Casiño's party introduces '6 Senate champions'": "Senators Loren Legarda, Francis Escudero and Aquilino Pimentel III as well as senatorial bets Grace Poe-Llamanzares and Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar are running as guest candidates of Makabayan, the political party that is pushing the senatoral bid of Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño. Casiño, recently appointed to be Makabayan's standard bearer, is among the "six senate champions" to carry the coalition's banner, Makabayan president Satur Ocampo said in a radio interview."
