From the Philippine Information Agency (Nov 7): Davao City dad condemns Paquibato ambush
A city councilor strongly condemned the ambush allegedly perpetrated by communist rebels which killed four soldiers in Barangay Mapula, Paquibato District last Sunday afternoon. Speaking at the privilege hour during the regular session of the city council, Councilor Karlo Bello, chair of the committee of human rights expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the soldiers and condemned the incident. He said the soldiers were servants of the Filipino people bound by the constitution as its protector. Bello said every killed Filipino soldier is worth the uproar and condemnation when their lives are taken as they serve for the love of country and people. Bello stressed the condemnation despite questions why the soldiers were unarmed during the incident when there were several preceding violent incidents ranging from encounters, grenade throwing incident, and complaints of human rights violations that happened in Paquibato District. He said the soldiers braved dangerous places under dangerous circumstances to fulfill their duty to the country. “These men will be honored accordingly,” Bello said....
