From Kalinaw News (May 8, 2023): Kitaotao disclose 29 Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) surrenders
In a peaceful mass surrender rites, 29 CTG members and supporters in the Municipality of Kitaotao, Bukidnon peacefully surrendered to the folds of the Government. They were accepted by the Local Government Executive at the same time Head of the Local Peace Engagement Team, the Honorable Mayor Edwin P. Abucayan on May 2, 2023. Their surrender brought in five (5) high and 13 low powered firearms.
The surrenderers are members of the Guerilla Front 53 who were dismantled in December 2021, the remnants of which joined the Guerilla Front 57. Eleven of whom are regular members, 14 are Milisyang Bayan and four (4) are CTG mass supporters who have been living in fear of getting captured and tortured.
This is the result of the synergized and relentless pursuit by the 72nd Infantry Battalion, the Philippine National Police of Kitaotao and the Local Government Unit of Kitaotao
BGen. Patricio Ruben P. Amata, Commander of 1002nd Infantry Brigade stressed that the surrender was bolstered by the strong convergence of the government agencies to help those who have been misled down in the wrong path of armed struggle.
Meanwhile, Hon. Abucayan assured that these former rebels will be properly assisted and processed so they can easily reintegrate into the mainstream society. They will receive livelihood assistance funded by the LGU of Kitaotao and enrolled to the Enhanced Comprehensive Livelihood Integrated Program on education, skills training, legal assistance, health support, among others.
Lt. Col. Julius Paclibar, Commander of 72nd IB, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of LGU Kitaotao for prioritizing their local programs in the conquest for peace. Clearly, Kitaotao has a strong potential to be part of the insurgency-free areas in the region and soon be a successful testimony of peace transformation.
