Posted to Kalinaw News (Jan 21, 2022): 1 CTG Member Killed, 4 High-powered Firearms Seized as Gov’t Troops Step up Security Measures in Bicol

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur-A communist NPA terrorist (CNT) was killed while high-powered firearms were captured from the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) after an armed clash in Sorsogon province that stemmed from a stringent security measures set in place by government troops in Bicol.

Joint elements of 31st Infantry Battalion (31IB), 903rd Infantry Brigade, intelligence units of Army and Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) and Sorsogon Police Provincial Office were conducting security operations after some residents tipped-off the presence of CTG members in their area, when they encountered at least 20 CNTs around 12:50 in the afternoon in Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Barcelona, Friday, January 21.

After the fierce gun fight, a CTG member whose identity is still unknown was killed while four high-powered firearms were seized from the encounter site.

Lt. Col. Marlon Mojica, Battalion Commander of 31IB, directed the troops to continue scouring the area and the nearby Barangays to hunt down the fleeing terrorists who might take shelter in the civilian communities.

Meanwhile, BGen Aldwine Almase, Brigade Commander of 903rd Brigade, stressed that the successful operation thwarted CTG’s attempt to conduct extortion activities and intimidations against the Sorsoganons.

“Alam at kinamumuhian na ng lahat ang karahasan at kasamaan ng mga teroristang ito kaya higit na masigasig ang ating mga tropa ngayong panahon ng eleksyon upang hanapin sila at galugarin ang mga pinagtataguan nilang lugar nang sa ganun ay hindi sila magtagumpay sa kanilang mga iligal na gawain. Hindi natin sila hahayaang makapangbiktima lalo na ng mga kandidato at sinumang mamamayan ngayong halalan,” BGen. Almase said.

Moreover, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) under PBGen. Jonnel Estomo assured the public of the intensified efforts of the security sector to protect them and their communities.

“Kahit abala po tayo sa inilalatag nating seguridad ngayong election period, we will not put our guards down against this terrorist group maging sa sinumang nagpaplanong maghasik ng karahasan dito sa Kabikolan,” PBGen. Estomo said.

MGen. Alex DC Luna, Commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) Bicolandia, on the other hand, lauded the effective interoperability of Army and PNP that has been very instrumental in the government’s series of successes for the past years.

“Our campaigns have reached new heights because when the JTF Bicolandia, the PNP and the Bicolanos combine, we become a formidable force. Ito po ang dahilan kung bakit positibo tayong matatapos na ang problema natin sa insurhensya dito sa Bicol. Sa mga natitira namang miyembro ng CTG, huwag ninyong hayaang matulad kayo rito sa kasamahan ninyong nasayang lang ang buhay dahil nagpalinlang sa teroristang grupong ito. Life is short. Do not waste it in a useless cause,” MGen. Luna said.

JTF Bicolandia has stepped up their security operations this election period to leave no room for the CTG’s atrocities that might disrupt the peace and order in Bicol.
