Posted to Kalinaw News (Dec 3, 2020): DAESH Inspired Terrorist Surrenders in Lanao Sur
CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga Del Sur – Six members of Daesh Inspired (DI) local terrorist group surrendered to Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion, Thursday, December 3, 2020.
According to Lt. Col. Rafman Altre, 82nd Infantry Battalion Commander, the surrendered terrorist were involved in an encounter in Marantao detachment in year 2017.
Four troopers were wounded during that clash.
The six terrorist also yielded two firearms.
Custodial debriefing is on-going as of this posting.
Meanwhile, Brig.Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, Commander of 103rd Infantry Brigade, urged the remaining DI members to lay down their arms and end the senseless violence in the Lanao provinces.
“We will remain relentless in our campaign against the remaining DIs in the province, we will also intensify our reintegration efforts with our convergence to stakeholders in order to address not only the needs of our returnees, but of their families’ as well.” Brig.Gen. Cuerpo added.
Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio, commander of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division lauded the 82IB and the civilian stakeholders involved in the successful surrender of the DI members.
“Truly, our campaign in against terrorism also rely on the cooperation and involvement of the local government units, datus, ulamas and even the local populace itself”, said Maj. Gen. Ponio.
“We can defeat terrorism by whole-of-nation approach, trusting and helping each other, so that our future generations will inherit the just and lasting peace”, added Maj. Gen. Ponio.
