Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City- December 1, 2020Four members of the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group surrendered in Lanao del Sur on November 30, 2020, WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said.
Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. identified the surrendered personalities as Calandada Pungima “Tarapas” Lumondot, 55, resident of Barangay Mamaanun; Jamal Mamadra “Jamal” Radiab, 30, resident of Barangay Gacap; Muhaimen Mamualas Abdul “Opaw” Carim, 30, resident of Barangay Gacap; and Imam Sultan”Mocta” Moctar, 22, resident of Barangay Gacap, all of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur.
“The four submitted themselves to the troops of the 82nd Infantry Battalion in Barangay Pawak, Municipality of Siguiaran,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.
The surrendered personalities handed over one Rocket-Propelled Grenade, one M79 Grenade Launcher, one KG9, and one caliber 45 pistol.
During the debriefing, the ex-militants confessed that they decided to surrender for fear of their demise knowing the stern orders from the President to quell all violent extremist activities for the government programs to have continuity of implementation.
“We heard about the programs of the government and we realized that violent extremism is wrong most especially that the true teachings of Islam are peace and cooperation,” the four said.
82IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Rafman Altre revealed that “Tarapas” participated in the Marawi Siege while “Jamal”, “Opaw”, and “Mocta” participated in the different encounters in Piagapo with Imam Dimacaling.
“They decided to go on lie-low status in 2018 following the death of Dimacaling and the siege,” Lt. Col. Altre stated.
Likewise, Lt. Col. Altre lauded the efforts of the local officials and traditional leaders of Piagapo who facilitated the peaceful surrender.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo III, Commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade, reiterated his call to the remaining members of the Daesh-inspired group to surrender to prevent further escalation of violent extremism in the area. He further affirmed that the government has programs for Former Violent Extremists (FVEs) who chose to lay down their arms and return to the folds of the law.
Moreover, JTF ZamPeLan Commander Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio lauded the troops for their efforts contributory to the overall accomplishment of the unit mission and their professionalism in performing their mandates.
