Kalinaw News: Former UGMOs denounces NPA atrocities, affirms support to end armed conflict

From Kalinaw News (Sep 3, 2020): Former UGMOs denounces NPA atrocities, affirms support to end armed conflict
Forty-six (46) members of the Magkahiusang Masa Farmers Organization (MAMAFAO), a former Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) and about two hundred (200) former mass base supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA) from Barangay Maasin, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur denounced the atrocities of the NPA and affirmed their support to Executive Order No. 70 “Whole- of the-Nation Approach” during a Grand Pulong Pulong (GPP) held at the said barangay last September 01, 2020.

The said GPP was attended by Hon. Leonida P. Manpatilan, Municipal Mayor of Esperanza and her Council together with other local government agencies (LGAs) and the 26th Infantry (Ever Onward) Battalion, 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army represented by Maj. Ariel S. Fabria, Executive Officer.

Hon. Manpatilan warmly welcomed the former UGMO and mass supporters for returning back to the fold of law. “ Panahon na para atong buhaton ang atong papel sa kumunidad, ang atong panag timbayayong ug panaghiusa maoy tulay paingon sa atong gipangandoy nga kalambuan ug kalinaw.“, she said.
The 26IB maximized its public dialogues and pulong-pulongs as part of the Community Support Program (CSP) in different areas especially in NPA affected communities to dominate the information strategy in countering the terrorists deceptive tactics, recruitment and propagandas against the government. On the other hand, the CSP operators identified the common issues within the community and later bring it up to the right agencies for appropriate action, bringing the government closer to the community.

“As per EO70 of President Duterte, the delivery of basic services and social development in conflict affected areas must be prioritized and all sectors must participate. Fabria said.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Reynald Romel A. Goce, 26IB Commanding Officer, lauded the Municipality of Esperanza. “Insurgency is not the sole responsibility of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) but it is a shared concern and responsibility of all government agencies and members of the society and it is good to know that the Municipality of Esperanza exhibits its good character in
implementing EO70 as mandated by President Duterte.”, he said

“Let us work together to end insurgency threats posed by the left leaning organization for a lasting peace and development for this will surely amplify our efforts in addressing the socio-economic issues that are used by the CPP-NPA in poisoning the minds and hearts of our people.”, Lt. Col. Goce ended.
