CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental – A total of 64 mass supporters withdrew their support from Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) and vowed allegiance to the government in two separate pulong-pulong conducted at Brgy Silo-o and Brgy San Luis, all of Malitbog, Bukidnon; and Brgy I.S Cruz and Brgy San Nicolas, all of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental last August 31, 2020.
All were categorized as members of the Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) who are affiliated to Pambansang Kilusang Mambubukid (PKM) from National Democratic Front (NDF) wherein 44 members are under the supervision of Platoon Ryan, Motorola and 20 from SDG Edot, Huawei, all of Sub- Regional Committee 1 (SRC 1), Northern Central Mindanao Region Command (NCMRC).
Majority of said supporters are Indigenous People (IP) who were blindly recruited and became victims of the CTG’s deceptive recruitment. Moreover, this significant accomplishment is a result of the efforts of the Army’s Community Support Team (CST) under 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion and the support of the council members of said barangays.
During the activity, the mass supporters signed the wall of commitment showing their full support in declaring the CNTs as Persona Non Grata in their barangays. A pledge of loyalty to the government was also conducted, which was followed by burning of the CPP-NPA flag to denounce the atrocities committed by the CTGs.
In his statement, alias Man-apot of Brgy Silo-o, Maltibog, Bukidnon said, “Dako ang amung pagpasalamat sa mga kasundaluhan ug sa among opisyales sa barangay aron sa katin-awan kung kinsa and tinood nga gobyerno ug kinsa ang tinooray nga gatabang aron sa pagkab-ot sa kalinaw ug kalambuan sa atong nasud.” (We are thankful to the government troops and the barangay council members for the enlightenment of who is real government and who is really helping in the attainment of peace and development of the country.)
“Sa ona, gatabangan namo ang mga NPA sap ag asikaso sa salakyan para sa supply sa pagkaon nila ug ginaasikaso namo sila kung sila anaa sa among komunidad. Pero sugod karun, wala na silay dahumon ug tabang ug suporta gikan kanamo kay wala sila gitabang sa among kinabuhi,” he added. (Before, we assisted the NPAs in facilitating the transportation of their food supplies and we served as their guide when they are in our community. But from now on, we assure that no support will come from us because we receive nothing in return, only false promises.”
Lieutenant Colonel Ricky L Canatoy, Commanding Officer of 58th Infantry Battalion said, “We are thankful that our troops immersed in the influenced communities have effectively delivered the right information to the local populace that made them understand the pointless endeavor of the CTGs which misleads the people, especially the youth, towards a brighter future.”
“They are now returning to the folds of the law because the government’s efforts in attaining peace and order for the country are now visible through the implementation of the Executive Order No. 70 (EO #70),” he added.
Likewise, Lt. Col. Canatoy commended the Dimalulupig troopers for a job well done in convincing the NPA supporters to return to the folds of the law.
