NSFA Panacan, Davao City – Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay was reunited with his former military and civilian colleagues at the Eastern Mindanao Command Headquarters in Panacan, Davao City in his first visit as the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Lt. Gen Gapay, who was a former Eastmincom Deputy Commander, was welcomed by current Eastmincom Commander Lt. Gen Jose Faustino Jr. along with the troops from the 10th Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Division, Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM), and the Tactical Operations Wing Eastern Mindanao on Friday, August 14, 2020 through an Arrival Honors.

He also met the different personnel of Eastmincom in a short ceremony dubbed “Talk to Troops” held at the NFEM covered court in Camp Panacan.

In his message, the AFP’s top brass assured the Eastmincom troops of the AFP General Headquarters’ full support on its several initiatives especially in the area of maintaining peace and order in the communities.

“Eastmincom has contributed a lot to the AFP’s achievements not only in the area of internal security operations,” Lt. Gen. Gapay said in his speech, urging the Command to continue to push for more in achieving excellence in all areas of its services.

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gapay formally assumed his new post during the Change of Command Ceremony held on August 3, 2020, at Camp Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Prior to his appointment as the AFP Chief of Staff, he served as the Commanding General of Philippine Army, Commander of the Southern Luzon Command, Commander of the Mechanized Infantry Division, Deputy Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command, and Commander of Joint Task Force Haribon based in Davao City.
