Four Daulah Islamiyah members submitted themselves and turned over their firearms to the troops of the 55th Infantry Battalion in Lanao del Sur on July 23, 2020.
Handed over were one M653 Carbine rifle, two 40mm Grenade Launchers, and two cal. .45 pistols.
Lt. Col. Franco Raphael Alano, Commanding Officer of 55IB, stressed that after a month of negotiations and dialogue with the LGU of Marugong, sultans, datus, and their relatives, the DI members finally decided to return to the fold of law.
Likewise, one of the surrendered personalities known as Jamil revealed that they decided to yield after realizing that their acts were against the teachings of Islam and that they lost the support and sympathy of their proponents.
Meanwhile, Jose Maria Cuerpo II, Commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade, urged the remaining DI members to lay down their arms and end the senseless violence in the Lanao provinces.
"We will remain relentless in our campaign against the remaining DIs in the province, we will also intensify our reintegration efforts to address not only the needs of our returnees, but of their families' as well," Col Cuerpo said.
Subject personalities are currently undergoing custodial debriefing and will then undergo medical and physical examination.
Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, JTF ZamPeLan Commander, said, “Let us defeat terrorism by trusting and helping each other, so that our future generations will inherit the just and lasting peace that everybody is aiming for.”
The four were provided with relief packs containing 25 kilos of rice, other food items, and hygiene kits courtesy of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process.
"We are for peace, not for war. Ending terrorism in a peaceful way and without a single bloodshed is but more fulfilling," said WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.
"Let us win peace as one, while we heal as one," Lt. Gen. Sobejana added.
