From the Visayan Daily Star (Jul 26, 2020): 2 civilians, ex-RPA rebel killed
Two civilians, one a senior citizen and the other a former member of the defunct Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) were both killed on Thursday and Friday, respectively, in Negros Island.
A witness to the killing of Cpl. Mark Anthony Quiocson was also shot and killed yesterday by New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Proper, Brgy. Luz, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, Army spokesman Maj. Cenon Pancito III said last night.
Pancito identified the victim as Eldeson Martorillas, who was waylaid and shot dead by communist rebels.
Quiocson was also waylaid and shot dead by the NPA on July 1 in the same area. His death was claimed by the NPA Leonardo Panaligan Command in a statement they issued.
Pancito recalled that Quiocson was also robbed of his money and other personal belongings by his assailants.
Former CHDF member Julie Casumpang was shot and killed by three to five armed men believed to be NPA members on Thursday at Purok 3, Brgy. Camalandaan, Cauayan, town police chief, Maj. Lowell Garinganao, said yesterday.
Casumpang, 60, died on the spot from multiple gunshot and stab wounds, Garinganao said.
Initial investigations of the Cauayan police showed that the victim was initially shot in the back while he was attending to his carabao.
The suspects, who were armed with M-16 and M-14 assault rifles, stabbed the victim and shot him at close range.
Several empty shells of M-14 and M-16 rifles were recovered at the scene of the incident.
On the same day, a former member of the defunct RPA-ABB was shot and killed by two motorcycle riding suspects also in Brgy. Daga, Cadiz City.
The victim was identified by the police as Jose Renante Fernandez, alias Nante.
Fernandez, 44, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head, Lt. Col. Robert Mansueto, Cadiz City police chief, said.
Mansueto said that the killing of Fernandez is not insurgency-related, and they are looking into personal grudges and a land dispute as the reason for the killing.
Mansueto added that they received a report that Fernandez was also linked to a murder incident in Cadiz City.
Recovered from the crime scene were two empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol.
