Acting on an information from a former rebel who surrendered to the 53rd Infantry Battalion, troops discovered an arms cache at Sitio Sapa Bagol, Barangay Pange, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte on July 21, 2020.
Seized from said arms cache were one M653 baby armalite, one M16 rifle, and one AK47 assault rifle.
In a statement, 53IB Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said that the success of this operation is a proof that the integrity of the armed group is disgruntled at its core.
Meanwhile, 22 Former Rebels from Zamboanga del Norte received PhP 20,000.00 financial assistance during the Provincial Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) committee meeting on the same day.
Col. Leonel Nicolas, Commander, 102nd Infantry Brigade urged the remaining CTG members to abandon the armed struggle.
"Our troops on the ground continuously deliver significant accomplishments in degrading the armed capability of the CTGs in our area of responsibility," said Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander.
Recovered firearms are placed under the custody of 53IB for documentation and safekeeping.
“While the entire nation continue to fight the contagion, we, the Team WestMinCom, sustain our efforts against the different threat groups to ensure the safety and security of the people,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, WestMinCom Commander.
